The first two SONIC THE HEDGEHOG movies were hits with core fans and general audiences, and a third movie was put into development just after the second came out. Now SONIC 3 is set for a prime December 2024 release date.
The first trailer reveals a few big things about the new movie. First: Robotnik is back! Second: Sonic and friends face off against Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves, who seems to be more powerful than the entire Sonic Team combined. What's the Sonic 3 Release Date?
Paramount Pictures has set December 20, 2024 as the release date for SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3.

The first trailer for SONIC 3 reintroduces the main characters, primarily Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik. It also introduces the mega-powerful Shadow, and sets up a new spin on the Sonic/Robotnik relationship.
What's the Plot of Sonic 3?
Right now, all we really know is that Shadow — who historically has been kind of like the Batman to Sonic's Superman — escapes from a lab or holding cell, and the Sonic Team races into action to stop him from causing widespread damage. Lacking the power to face Shadow on his own, the good guys team up with Robotnik… and we can guess that won't end well.
Jim Carrey Is in Sonic 3!
While Jim Carrey said he was mostly retiring from acting after SONIC 2, he was convinced to play Robotnik one more time.
Who's in the Cast of Sonic 3?
Many of the SONIC 3 cast members return from the previous two movies. Ben Schwartz once again voices Sonic the Hedgehog, and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter return as Tom and Maddie Wachowski. Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik, and Lee Majdoub returns as his assistant, Agent Stone.
Additionally, Colleen O'Shaughnessey voices Tails and Idris Elba returns as Knuckles. The cast also features Kristen Ritter, Alyla Brown, and James Wolk, but we do not know what roles any of those actors play.
And then there's brooding anti-hero Shadow the Hedgehog, who is voiced by Keanu Reeves. He's a major part of the movie. That suggests that we could also see some of Robotnik's family, as Shadow was created by Robotnik's grandfather.
SONIC 3 opens on December 20.
