Halloween Ends: Everything You Need to Know

2/4/2022 • 4 min read

(Updated 09/27/2022)

Despite the suggestion of the title of David Gordon Green’s most recent HALLOWEEN movie, Michael Myers was not killed, and his reign of terror against Laurie Strode and the town of Haddonfield continues. Following 2021’s HALLOWEEN KILLS, the sequel to 2018’s HALLOWEEN, Green’s trilogy will conclude this year with an aptly-titled final installment.

HALLOWEEN ENDS is set to end at least this iteration of the iconic masked killer. Hopefully, finally, Laurie Strode will be able to relax and take it easy for the first time in over 40 years. Or at least until the franchise is given yet another new life.

We're unusually excited to see how Green and co. will conclude the epic battle between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. Here’s everything we know so far about the new HALLOWEEN movie — including the trailer.

When Can You See Halloween Ends?

HALLOWEEN ENDS opens just in time for its namesake holiday. In other words, we get a new HALLOWEEN movie for Halloween, as HALLOWEEN ENDS opens on October 14.

Watch the Final Halloween Ends Trailer

This final trailer for HALLOWEEN ENDS sets up the movie's four-year time jump, and suggests that Michael has spent those years hiding in tunnels and sewers. More importantly, it sets up the final stage of Laurie's battle with Michael, which is now fueled by fury over the death of her daughter.

The Halloween Ends Cast

The Halloween Ends Cast

Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode alongside Andi Matichak as her granddaughter, Allyson. Unfortunately (spoiler alert), characters played by much of the principal cast of HALLOWEEN KILLS were offed by Michael Myers in the last movie, including Judy Greer, Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Longstreet, and Dylan Arnold.

However, some survivor characters could end up making an appearance for HALLOWEEN ENDS, such as Omar Dorsey as Sheriff Barker, Will Patton as Deputy Frank Hawkins, and Kyle Richards as Lindsay Wallace. And who knows what other faces, familiar or otherwise, could be making an appearance in this final installment. Since we can suspect the filmmakers will want to go out with a bang, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that there could be a few fun cameos.

What is the Plot of Halloween Ends?

As with much of the cast, the plot of HALLOWEEN ENDS is also being kept under wraps. At CinemaCon in April, Jamie Lee Curtis said "this Halloween, we will experience Laurie’s last stand." So that's something.

A few more details have come to light. For one, HALLOWEEN ENDS will take place four years after the events of HALLOWEEN KILLS, and will address real-world events such as COVID-19 and contemporary American politics.

Director Green also teased that it may be Laurie’s granddaughter, Allyson, who serves as the final film’s, well, final girl, as opposed to Laurie. This would seem fairly apt due to the trajectory of Allyson’s character in the previous two films.

The End of the Halloween Saga?

Over the past 30 years, the best way to watch the HALLOWEEN series in order has become increasingly complicated — it's almost like a Choose Your Own Adventure series in which you can choose one of four or five alternate pathways. By the time the credits roll on this HALLOWEEN 3 movie, we'll have a four-movie run telling Laurie Strode's complete story — which is more than she's ever had in the series before!

If we've learned anything from every sequel to a horror movie featuring one of the genre's big iconic characters, it's that no installment is ever quite the end. But we have every reason to believe that this will be the end of this particular arc.

The Creative Team Behind Halloween Ends

Rest assured, David Gordon Green will be returning to direct HALLOWEEN ENDS, co-writing alongside Danny McBride once again. And Green and McBride will be joined by two new players in the writing process: Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier. Horror legend and OG HALLOWEEN creator John Carpenter will also be returning as one of the film’s producers, as well as providing the score.
